An Ounce of Honesty.....

"Though I am not naturally honest, I am so sometimes by chance"- William Shakespeare.

Going through this Quote on Sunday Times, I could hardly hold back myself from sharing what we had this early morning.

Saturday evening, my mother was careless enough to return home without even noticing that something was missing from her paraphernalia. It was only when she about to pay a vegetable vendor at home, she found her purse missing. Frantic searches were on, involving everyone in the family looking for it in every nook and corner. We even traced the path she followed after she stepped down from the cab and went into the house, but nothing turned fruitful. She persistently insisted that she paid the cabbie from that purse itself and she believed she carried it back home with care. It was around 12 in the night, when she called it a day believing she had lost it. I was even ordered to prepare myself for a visit to the local police station to file a missing dairy(on her behalf ) for all the debit cards and other things lost.

Early Sunday morning, I was already typing in a letter addressing the Officer In Charge of our local PS. All of a sudden heard the phone ringing. Someone was clarifying whether the number was correct, I was in a hurry I replied hastily "Yes, who are you looking for?" The man replied in his polite tone, "Memsahab ne mere gaadi mein kuch samaan chod gaaye!!" It was like the Gift of the Magi's,sent straight from HEAVEN. My mother was relieved enough and we called over the CAB to our place.
On arrival he returned the purse with a humble gesture and he remarked on being praised for his honesty. All he said in hindi meant that he is not honest always, but he did it sub consciously, expecting god will repay his deeds.

All that I inferred from this incident was, he could have earned quite a hefty amount if he had stolen that purse, but on returning it, he became even more richer. Hats Off to people who doesn't believe in honesty but practices honesty.
